Exploration
Luella
Based on the story, I drafted various styles of the main character who has temper tantrums.
After the author chose which version fits his vision the best, I designed dragon costumes, which is an important element for serving the story and spicing up Luella's personality.
Luella's Family
After nailing down the look of our main character, I researched and designed her family members regarding the author's brief:
it is a blended family with Mom (jewellery designer), stepdad (engineer) and two younger siblings living in the Mission District neighbourhood of San Francisco.
Early Color Testing
The author has a distinctive brand identity.
I suggested incorporating his chosen color palette into the main character's outfits.
Book Dummy
Drafted the layout and visual storytelling for the illustrated book, incorporating text and supplementary materials.
Crafted the reading experience flow and printing design.
